7.9 windows experience index

Obviously Windows 7 is a forward looking OS and we can expect the first 6 and 8-core consumer processors to be available by the time it really gets going in early Taking the Core i7 to 4GHz did reach 7. Equally amazing was the score for the Radeon X2, this is a top-of-the-range Crossfire gaming card and it only just makes it into the 6's. We also tried a GeForce X to receive a mere 6.

More encouragingly both score 7. Microsoft has also overhauled the 2D and 3D test for Windows 7. But with these scores, we can't even see an existing quad SLI or Crossfire rig scoring much past the low 7's. Considering the next generation Nvidia and AMD graphics technology which will be supporting DirectX 11 features are due out towards the end of this is a strong indication that to get 7.

The memory is another stunning factor, we tested the fastest memory available running over a triple channel. But the WEI is well known for imposing artificial limits on certain scores, memory being a particularly limiting one. Essentially 5. And even so it's going to have to be fast memory to make the grade.

It didn't get any better in W7. It was hidden in W8 and removed in W It was a sliding scale that would be adjusted as advances in the state of the art saturated the market. This is why your scores could go down over time. Too many users misunderstood the scores and started stressing out because their scores dropped, or they could not get them higher. Benchmarks are artificial scenarios that are designed to "abuse" your hardware - that is, to stress them to the point they become unstable.

That's great for manufacturers and review sites who can afford to abuse someone else's hardware. I say don't bother with benchmarks, and especially ignore the WEI score. There are better ways to analyze the performance of your hardware - like just using it and see if the computer is stable and temps stay out of the red zone. Joined Jan 17, Messages 12, 2. Benchmarks are and have been a necessary tool for builders but WEI is not one of them. Joined Aug 17, Messages 0. The idea isn't bad though, to have a built in benchmark in Windows.

And wasn't it supposed to tie in with the Games for Windows thing? To have a benchmark system that produces a number you could actually base game purchases on would have been awesome, but programs and games behave so differently so just boiling it down to simple numbers gets really tricky.
